Have you heard of NYC311?

There are people everywhere in New York, and that leads to issues, questions, concerns, and complaints. So how do you navigate the world when there's so much going on? You check out NYC311!

You may have heard of 311 as it seems to pop up all over the place but have you ever wondered what it's for?

Well right now the most popular issues that they've dealt with include:

  • Alternate Side Parking and Street Cleaning
  • Parking Ticket or Camera Violation Payment
  • Property Tax Bill
  • Garbage, Recycling, and Organics Collection
  • FC and Freon Removal
  • Noise from Neighbor
  • Noise from Street or Sidewalk
  • Fire Hydrant Complaint
  • Apartment Maintenance Complaint
  • Illegal Parking
  • Blocked Driveway
  • Illegal Dumping
  • Governors Island

It's a pretty wide range of things! For you, the most likely things you're going to want to get in touch with them about are things like noise complaints of neighbors or the street, looking into education, understanding what happens in the parks around you, talking about tickets and fines, asking questions about sidewalks and streets and maybe even your pets!

They really can answer any of your questions about New York living and if they can't, they'll point you to the right department who will.

The one thing that shocked me about 311 is how responsive and helpful they are! I had expected to simply be put on a waiting list and then give up, but the couple of times I have requested assistance I have had an immediate response, then a follow-up!

To talk to them, you can pick up your phone and dial 311 or head to their website for more information!

If in doubt, call 311.

If in an emergency, call 911.

Don't mix those two up.
