Introducing Travel Josh the Travel Consultant

I love meeting good people who are willing to offer their expertise to help their community, and this guy's a perfect example of that! I met Josh at one of my America Josh events and he's been begging me to help the community with travel tips and tricks. So here we are! America Josh, meet Travel Josh!

I thought the best way to introduce Travel Josh would be to let Josh tell you his story himself:

My first day of working with Flight Centre in Australia – 8 years ago, I remember sitting in a circle introducing myself to my new team. “What I really like about this company, is that they encourage us to go work all over the world, I’m going to move to the US”.

Seven years later, I finally made it –the logistics, that was easy – rent out my apartment on Airbnb, sell my car etc. What took the time was getting the guts to book my ticket, indeed – a journey of a thousand miles starts with booking the ticket (duh)!

It didn’t matter that I didn’t have a job and didn’t know anybody – it didn’t matter that I needed to get a visa or find a place to stay. What mattered was that I had booked my ticket – that I’d set a date, that I’d cross accrued my Qantas frequent flyer to my Finn Air round the world ticket, that my aisle seat was requested and my VGML had been added. For me, that was all the confirmation I needed to get my act together… indeed, a non-refundable ticket set me up for my next adventure!

Having grown up 250 kms from the nearest town, going to boarding school from age 9, moving and being away from friends and family is something I’ve always done. I remember a boy telling me when I was crying that I missed my mother “you only miss home when you’re having a lousy time, when you’re having a blast – you don’t even think about home”. How true that kid was. having now lived outside of Australia for 8 years as an adult, his advice still rings true – I only miss Australia when things turn sour. This means I’m always chasing fun so that I can stop missing  Bowen Mangoes, Large Mouthed Nannygai or Chilli Mudcrab.

My friends and family also love that I live overseas, they love the free accommodation in London, New York, Gothenburg or any of the other places I’ve lived.

Now I work on Madison Avenue, in the Air Experts team for Flight Centre. We consolidate, group rate and manage the heck out of any and every kind of flight you could possibly think of. We solve problems and send off happy and sad people. We humanize what has become a very transactional process.

No flight is too big or too small, and hopefully – my future tips and tricks can be of assistance to you all out there.
