When is the best time to book travel?

With so many great ideas and plans afoot for 2020 travel, when is the best time to buy and book those tickets? When is the best time to book travel in advance?

The New Year is upon us, and if anyone else is like me and hasn’t booked anything for 2020, the time is already ticking! The anxiety of not having any upcoming trips is surely enough impetus to get those wallets open and those bucket lists ticked off. But this begs the question – when and where to get these tickets?

2020 for me is about laying the groundwork early, working out the must do’s, and leaving room for the spontaneous!  As it should be.

Work out you’re big one early, the 10 day – 2-3 week vacay that you really want to lock-in. Then start registering for fare alerts with the different airlines that will take you there. I strongly recommend doing this directly with the airline, as they will do their best to tempt you with sweet deals.

Once you have a general plan in place, I’d then go to a travel agent like myself to see what we have for your rough dates now. What we can do – which is quite fab and you can’t do online – is tell you what the absolute cheapest fare is, regardless of the time of year or availability. Why is this ability cool? Well – it shows you a very easy way to tell whether you should just book it now – rather than wait.

I always think that getting in early has so many pros. Airline and travel times of choice, best seating available as you are in first. Savings plan in place, as everything is locked in, and your focus can then be on the actual fun part – where to stay and what to do!

I’m not one to think that saving a little (big savings notwithstanding) is worth perhaps having the worst seats on the plane, traveling at unruly hours, or not flying with my desired airline – so get in early, with the best advice at your fingertips!

Happy New Year to you all! I look forward to connecting with you all in interesting new ways in 2020!
