What the hell is Net Neutrality?

You may have heard of or seen some posts around the internet in the past few days, weeks, and months regarding “Net Neutrality” and right now it's REALLY important, so I wanted to say something about it.

This is your last chance to stop ISPs from messing up your Internet.

The FCC just announced its plan to slash net neutrality rules, allowing ISPs like Verizon to block apps, slow websites, and charge fees to control what you see & do online. They vote December 14th. But if Congress gets enough calls, *they* can stop the FCC.

So what's Net Neutrality? Scroll down!

Think of net neutrality like this: The internet right now, has lots of data flying back and forth, or “traffic” just like on a highway (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Google, Netflix, Amazon). All of this traffic is considered equal right now. This means that whether you're an individual looking at a small business website, a family watching Netflix, or a company looking at another company's website, that website or service is delivered to you at equal speed and quality.

This equal speed and quality is Net Neutrality.

Right now, the FCC is looking to remove this. Their argument is that the big companies that supply the internet are burdened too much by offering everything at equal speeds and not having the option to charge more to vary that content.

For every user on the internet though, the equality of traffic is of paramount importance and means you can browse to whatever you want without having to pay per service.

This has implications from political to Netflix.

It's very important.

If you call a member of Congress: LEAVE NOT ONLY YOUR MESSAGE BUT YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, and EMAIL. Ask for a reply back. Without giving all that info, calls and opinions are LESS LIKELY to be logged and counted. You must PROVE to your CONGRESSMEMBERS AND SENATORS you live in their districts and care.
