New York – March with Australia at NYC Pride

A joint event between America Josh and our partners

Last year, a couple of hundred Aussies showed up to the NYC Pride March under their own steam, pulled on a “G'Day” t-shirt, and marched down Fifth Avenue in front of around two million people. It ran on goodwill and a friend-of-a-friend choreographer, and it was one of the best days of the year. This year, we're doing it properly.

The Australian contingent is back for NYC Pride 2026 on Sunday, June 28, and the big news is that Qantas has come on board as our lead sponsor. It's the first time an airline has put its weight behind the Aussie section, and it changes what we can pull off: a free t-shirt for every marcher, free dance rehearsals with a Broadway-credited choreographer, and a proper centerpiece on the day.

It's the same community spirit as last year, just with the volume turned right up.

Who's behind it

This is a genuine team effort.

The march is being organized by three groups working together: the Australian Consulate-General in New York, America Josh, and the American Australian Association.

With the proud support of Qantas this year, it's sure to be Australia's best NYC Pride Parade, ever.

What you get when you march

Signing up gets you more than a spot on the street:

  • A free Aussie Pride t-shirt, which is required to march with the contingent. You can pick it up at any of the rehearsals in the lead-up.
  • Three free dance rehearsals with a Broadway-credited choreographer, on Wednesday, June 10, Wednesday, June 17, and Wednesday, June 24, from 6:00 to 7:00pm at the Australian Consulate-General, 150 East 42nd Street, Floor 34. There are drinks with the crew after each one.
  • A place in our choreographed routine, the visual heart of the contingent on the day.
  • The march itself: Fifth Avenue through Midtown down to the West Village, finishing near Christopher Street and Stonewall, watched by around two million people in person and broadcast across the city.
  • A post-march social to celebrate together once we've crossed the finish line.

You don't need to come to all three rehearsals, and you don't even need to dance if that's not your thing. Turn up to one, grab your shirt, and you're set.

You don't have to be Australian

This has never been an Aussies-only affair. Kiwis, partners, friends, family, and anyone who wants to march alongside the Australian community is welcome. Plenty of people marched last year not knowing a soul and finished the day with a new group of friends. That's rather the point.

How to register

Spots are capped at 200 marchers, and that cap is set by NYC Pride, so it's a hard limit we can't move. More than 100 people have already signed up, and once we hit 200 that's it for the year.

Register at aussiepridenyc.com. Registration is one person per form, so anyone marching with you needs to sign up themselves. Once you're in, we'll email the assembly details closer to the day, and your phone number is only ever used for day-of alerts like a change to the step-off time.

The march steps off around midday on Sunday, June 28. Block out the afternoon, wear comfortable shoes, bring water and sun protection, and pull on that Aussie Pride tee. I'll see you on Fifth Avenue.
