RMIT Alumni: The University Is Coming to New York

If you studied at RMIT and you’re now living in the United States, there’s something happening in New York in September that’s worth knowing about.

RMIT is hosting a cocktail evening for its US-based alumni community at the Asia Society on Park Avenue. The University is sending its most senior people. Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Alec Cameron will share an update on where RMIT is heading. He’s joined by Michelle King, Vice-President of Engagement, and Joanna Watts, Chief Advancement Officer.

It’s pitched as the start of a new chapter for RMIT’s alumni network across the US. As well as hearing from the University, attendees get a say in shaping how RMIT stays connected with its graduates abroad. That’s a rare chance to actually influence how these things run, rather than just turning up to them.

Who can attend

This one is for RMIT alumni based in the United States, and invitations have already gone out. It isn’t a general public event. The University has also asked that attendees come solo rather than bringing a guest.

Dress code is smart casual.

Places are limited and registrations close a couple of weeks out.

Why it’s worth going

Australian universities don’t often bring their senior leadership to New York. When they do, the rooms tend to be small and genuinely useful.

Everyone there will have Melbourne in common and a US work life in common, which is usually all it takes.
