The ACO is known widely for its extraordinary virtuosity and fearless programmatic vision, and that spirit has created an artistic home for American composer John Luther Adams.
The world premiere of “Horizon”, commissioned by the ACO, will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 in Zankel Hall, Carnegie Hall. The title refers to the memoir of the same name by Barry Lopez, a longtime friend of Adams’s until the writer’s death in 2020.
Alongside “Horizon” the Orchestra will present Richard Tognetti’s string orchestra arrangement of Schubert’s iconic “Death and the Maiden,” quartet. The program celebrates the ACO’s distinct string sound, weaving between musical expanse and intimacy, tradition and bold reinvention.
