New York – Ghost Nets to Knowledge: Storytelling engagement with artists Lavinia Ketchell and Joshua Thiaday

On behalf of the Permanent Mission of Australia to the United Nations, please join us in an evening of storytelling, traditional knowledge, and artistic exploration with visiting Torres Strait artists' Lavinia Ketchell and Joshua Thaiday.

The work of Lavinia and Joshua is key to Australia's current exhibition located at The United Nations, Ghost Nets to Knowledge: Protecting the Ocean through First Nations' Storytelling.

This unique exhibition showcases the profound connection between First Nations' peoples and the ocean, told through powerful artworks and sculptures created from ghost nets—discarded fishing materials threatening marine ecosystems. The exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate Indigenous knowledge systems and raise awareness about the urgent need for ocean conservation.

Light refreshments will be provided
