New York City Marathon 2025 – Everything you need to know to run or cheer

On Sunday, November 2, 2025 The New York City Marathon will be run for its 54th time. The race is an annual marathon that courses through the five boroughs of New York City, is SO much fun to watch, and most importantly, it's so much fun to be part of the millions supporting the over 50,000 runners (including lots of Aussies!)

So why do you care? Because it's an absolutely incredible thing to see, and you're going to love every minute of it whether you're a runner or a spectator.

Are you a runner? Register here so we can track and cheer you on!

Are you a spectator? Join our Cheer Squad in Williamsburg!

The New York Marathon Course 2025

The 26.2 mile course travels through all five boroughs. The starting line is in Staten Island at the Western end of Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and participants run through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx before crossing the finish line in Central Park, just outside of Tavern on the Green. Take a look at the map with all the info on subway closures for the day here.

Because the race runs through all five boroughs of New York City you must know this: Getting around on Sunday is going to be incredibly difficult and there are many road and bridge closures. Plan ahead or you're going to be stuck for quite some time!

The attached map is a handy way to pick somewhere to watch from, or you can use the official guide to select a spot (I'll be in Williamsburg with cocktails and coffees and delicious food)!

Things to know about the New York Marathon

There are LOTS of people who come out to watch the race so know that the track is going to be filled with people.

For that reason, people you may know running in the race might not be able to see you and you will miss them as they go by. To keep track, be sure to check out the live tracking of runners online and there is an official NYC Marathon app that can help you out as well available on iOS and Android.

If you're tracking runners, be sure to set the app up early, because doing it on the day can become incredibly difficult.

With lots of people also comes lots of security so keep your head screwed on, don't be silly, and enjoy what should be a great fun day! High five, yell loud, be supportive… It's a long run for these (little-bit-nuts) runners!

Want to cheer for the Aussies running in the NYC Marathon 2025?

We're launching the Official “Big Aussie Cheer Squad” in Williamsburg! Join us to wave and cheer on the Aussies as they pass their 10th mile of running, just before they head into Queens, The Bronx, and then Manhattan.

We'll have Aussie flags, special cocktails, coffee deals, delicious food and tracking of our runners. We'll also have balloons and flags along the track so that the runners know where to find us! Bring a flag, or wear your brightest green and gold, and we'll see you there.

To come along, register your details here and join us at any time!

For runners, keep your eyes on the left side of the track at 65th and 1st for the Big Aussie Flag and the people cheering your names! Be sure to register your information below.

Proudly supported by America Josh, the Australian Consulate-General New York, and Australian Women in New York!

Don't know anyone to cheer for in the NYC Marathon 2025?

If you don't know anyone in the race but want to cheer loud for someone, then cheer for these community runners (to be shared soon!)

We'll be tracking them from our party, and you can track them from anywhere on the course!

Are you running the New York Marathon 2025?

If you're running, let's build you a cheer squad!

I've built a tool so you can register your details and I'll share the runners' details on this page closer to the event so that we can have someone cheering as you run by.
