If you grew up with netball and thought moving to America meant hanging up the bib, here’s some good news. Netball America is running trials for its USA University Team, and they’ve reached out specifically to let our community know that Australians are welcome.
This one is open to Aussie student-athletes already studying in the US, and to those of you planning the move. So if netball is in your blood and you’re a student over here, this is a genuine chance to keep playing at a serious level.
What it’s about
Netball America has earned a wildcard entry into the FIRE5 Netball Tournament in Manchester, UK, on August 29 and 30, 2026, and they’re building the squad now. Trials are for female student-athletes aged 16 and up.
Two things make this worth a look beyond the tournament itself. First, the team’s newly announced head coach comes from the UK Super League, so everyone who trials gets a taste of world-class, high-performance coaching. Second, this isn’t a one-off. Even if you can’t make this particular event, Netball America has more opportunities coming up in both the US and Australia, and trialing now puts you in the mix for squad selection down the line.
How to trial, wherever you are
The first events happen in the UK because of the tournament, but you don’t need to be in London to put your hand up:
- In the US and internationally, you can email the team for trials in your area, plus virtual trial options.
- The in-person UK trials run on June 27 and 28 in London, for anyone who happens to be over there.
So whether you’re in New York, LA, or anywhere in between, there’s a path in.
How to register
Head to USAUniversityNetball.com to learn more, or register for trials directly here. To ask about trials in your area or a virtual session, email the team at [email protected].
If you play, or you know an Aussie student over here who does, pass this along. It’s a brilliant way to stay in the game, get coached by the best, and meet a few teammates while you’re at it.
