America Josh and the Australian Consulate-General in New York have four tickets to give away to Friday, September 18’s Hudson River Derby. NYCFC have very kindly donated the tickets so that our community can be there, and in some of the best seats in the house.
Entries close at 5:00pm ET on Monday, September 14. Details on how to enter are below!
The Hudson River Derby
New York has two MLS clubs and they don’t love each toher.
NYCFC plays out of the Bronx. The Red Bulls play across the water in Harrison, New Jersey. They’ve met 34 times since 2015, the Red Bulls lead the all-time series 16 wins to 13 with five draws, and the fixture has produced red cards, seven-goal hidings and a match still known to fans as Throw-In Gate.
This year alone they’ve already played twice. NYCFC won 3-1 in the US Open Cup, then the two sides drew 1-1 in May in a match that was, by all accounts, spectacularly bad-tempered.
So this is the decider, and it’s at home.
Two Socceroos on the field
Here’s the part that makes this one ours: NYCFC has two Australians on its roster, and both of them just came back from the World Cup.
Aiden O’Neill is a midfielder in his second season at the club. He’d earned 30 caps for the Socceroos before Tony Popovic named him in Australia’s 26-man squad, and he’s been a regular presence in the middle of the park for New York.
Kai Trewin is a defender who arrived in January from Melbourne City, a sister club under the same City Football Group ownership. He’d played five times for Australia before getting his World Cup call-up.
And here’s the detail that seals it. Trewin’s first goal for NYCFC came against the Red Bulls, in the US Open Cup, in this exact fixture. Watching two Socceroos play a derby in New York, with a room full of Australians behind them, is a genuinely good reason to spend a Friday night in the Bronx.
About the Delta Suite
This isn’t a seat in the stands. The Delta Suite is premium hospitality, which means a considerably more comfortable evening than you’d usually get at a football match in September.
NYCFC donated these tickets specifically so the Australian community could be there together. That’s a generous thing for a club to do, and it’s worth saying so plainly.
How to enter
Entering takes about thirty seconds.
Fill in the form below before 5:00pm ET on Monday, September 14. You’ll be asked how many tickets you’d want, anywhere from one to four, so tell us what suits. Coming on your own is completely fine. So is bringing three people.

Thank you to our partners
This one happened because of the Australian Consulate-General in New York, who partnered with us on it, and NYCFC, who donated the tickets.
The Consulate has been behind a lot of what the Australian community in New York gets to do together this year, and we love working together.
Good luck. I hope one of you gets to watch two Socceroos win a derby.
