Restaurant of the week
It's late at night, and you're in Lower Manhattan having a drink with some close friends who are visiting from abroad. You want to show off that you know this city back to front and head somewhere that seems a little bit off the beaten track?
Look no further than Wo Hop City in Chinatown (17 Mott St, New York, NY 10013).
This place gets no awards for it's decor but the food is great, the prices are ridiculously cheap, and it's open until 4:30am… the perfect combo!
Bar of the week
With the Superbowl coming up this Sunday you need to find yourself a spot with some delicious bar food and somewhere to watch.
Mel's Burger Bar is exactly that and comes recommended with its two locations (UWS – 2850 Broadway, between 110th and 111th; and UWS – 1450 Second Avenue, between 75th and 76th).
Thing-to-do of the week
I mean the answer is really to watch the Superbowl on Sunday. Why? Because it's fun and goes well into the evening!
I know that many of my readers don't know what the hell is going on in the football, so I've written this handy guide which gives you a REALLY rough introduction to what's happening on the field. This is by no means an exhaustive list of rules, but I think it will be enough for you to watch and enjoy at least elements of the game.
Colin (from below) has suggested any of the following to watch:
- Carlow East (Seahawks)
- Stumble Inn (for getting drunk and burgers)
- Standings (good baseball bar but small)
- Foley's (baseball),
- Football Factory (Soccer, massive)
- Smithfield Hall (Soccer)
- The Ainsworth (Upscale-ish)
- Ainsworth Park (more upscale)
- Mad River, Finnerty’s (Pac-12)
Local tip of the week
This week's tip comes from Colin, who is sitting next to me as I write, who recommends:
It's tough for who to pick for the Superbowl. There are lots of Philadelphia Eagles fans around being so close to Philly and a general dislike for the Pats (unless you're a Pats fan). However the Pats are very popular (for Pats fans) across the country being such a successful franchise. So… Go for who you want, and hope for the best.
